Hurricane Erika:- Jimena weakens to Category 3 off Baja California.Hurricane Jimena has weakened to a Category 3 hurricane as it threatens vacation resorts on Mexico’s Baja California peninsula.
A hurricane warning in effect for the southern part of the peninsula, which was already being pummeled by heavy winds, battering waves and bands of intense rain.
Maximum sustained winds had dropped to around 125 mph (205 kph), and the storm was moving north-northwest near 12 mph (19 kph) Tuesday afternoon.
The center of the storm was forecast to be near or over the southern portion of the peninsula by late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Erika has formed in the open Atlantic, east of Antigua and Barbuda. The storm has top winds around 50 mph, and could grow stronger in the next couple of days.

Tropical Storm Erika:- Quite likely, we’ll see Tropical Storm Erika make her debut this afternoon.
In its 2 p.m. tropical outlook today, the National Hurricane Center says satellite imagery indicates a well-defined center of circulation is apparently forming about 260 miles east of the Leeward Islands.
A hurricane hunter aircraft, currently investigating the system, probably will confirm that.
Tropical storm watches or warnings might be posted this afternoon for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands as well as Puerto Rico.
The questions now are: Where will this thing go and how strong will it get? We’ll see what the hurricane center has to say when it starts writing advisories.
With that going on, you would think that a moisture rich hurricane headed toward Baja would offer some relief. Unfortunately, the moisture from major Hurricane Jimena (almost a category 5 hurricane) won't likely be benefiting southern California. It is headed further east, but this 155 mph very dangerous hurricane (156 mph is a category 5) has its sites set on Baja California.
